Matt Leines

Matt Leines grew up as an indoor kid in Totowa, New Jersey. He returned to the suburb after picking up a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. Drawing influence from Hermetic Sciences to Hulk Hogan and Harold Hardrada to He-Man, Leines paints pictures that depict the culture and conflicts of a fantasy world inhabited by moustached men, wild animals, and living architecture. Leines’ work has been exhibited internationally including Roberts and Tilton Gallery in Los Angeles and Deitch Projects in New York. He recently completed a summer residency at the Watermill Foundation in the Hamptons, NY, a multi-media arts foundation started by Robert Wilson. He will exhibit in February 2008 at Clementine Gallery in New York.
